TS Galaxy winless in seven matches

- Itumeleng Mokoena

TS Galaxy added another draw to their run as they stalemated with the struggling Moroka Swallows at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday. The draw moved them up to 10th place on the log.

On October 4, The Rockets lost their third game of the season and failed to beat their former coach Dan Malesela’s Marumo Gallants.

The Rockets failed to grab the three important points that could have salvaged their dreams of wrapping up the league in the top eight. A win would have seen them eventually move up to eighth place on the log.

The draw resulted in a seven-game winless streak and their goal-scoring drought stretched.

TS Galaxy last scored a goal on August 14 when they hosted the then struggling SuperSport United in Mbombela.

The Rockets continue with their previous season’s march of not scoring goals.

The Moroka Swallows stretched their winless run to five matches and continued to drop down to 15th on the table with 16 goals conceded.

Both teams had promising chances, but Galaxy dominated and maintained a 68% ball possession.

They had 14 shots, of which three were on target, while the Swallows had 32% ball possession with 13 shots and only two ontarget.

The Swallows’ goalkeeper, Sanele Tshabalala, was hard at work as he had denied Bernard Parker’s direct free kick just before the first half break to keep the game at bay.

In the second half, both teams came hard on each other, but failed to convert. A lot of chances were created, then a real big chance visited The Rockets on 62 minutes when Swallows defender Junaid Sait dramatically caused a handball in the box, which resulted in a penalty kick.

However, Parker could not initially score his first goal of the season and the first for his new team, as his spot kick was saved by Tshabalala to keep the Swallows in the game.

The Swallows dominated the game's closing 30 minutes and threatened with a free kick from Lebohang Lesako, which Buthelezi expertly saved.

The Rockets came close to winning the match in stoppage time, when Bathusi Aubaas headed in from close range, but the goal was rightfully ruled out for offside. Both of the teams then shared the spoils.

The Rockets will travel to Soweto on Wednesday October 19 to face the glamour boys Kaizer Chiefs, who have been on a winning streak.
