Three lions caught in Marloth Park

-

MARLOTH PARK - Following further reports of lions in the area, three were caught and moved to a place of safety on Tuesday evening.

A sighting of a mother and her two sub-adult cubs was reported on the Marloth Park- Paradise of Earth Facebook page on Tuesday.

The trio were spotted feeding on a wildebeest at about 20:00 near the Bush Centre.

Local vets came to the area and darted the three lions, after which they were moved.

On October 16, there were sightings of two lionesses, each with cubs, however, the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency’s carnivore specialist, Gerrie Camacho, said there was only photographic evidence of one mother and its cubs. It is therefore unclear how many lions still remain in Marloth at this stage.

Visitors and residents have been warned to remain vigilant, and the carnivore team is on the ground monitoring the situation.

Should any member of the public come across a carcase, they are urged not leave their vehicles in search of the lions. Should one spot the lions, please contact any one of the following persons:
