Volkswagens in the mist at Kaapsehoop

- Matthys Ferreira

KAAPSEHOOP - The annual Volkswagen Vintage Car Festival celebrated its 10th anniversary over the past weekend, October 15 and 16. Kaapsehoop brought its best - typical - foggy and dripping weather to the party. For those hippie Beetle fans, however, nothing will dampen their wandering spirit and love of the classic Volkswagen.

For the organisers, Andrea and Charl Fourie, owners of the Bohemian Groove Café and utter VW aficionados, misty weather and rain is as part of their life as is a VW any VW. Although somewhat older, wiser and still hard at work, at life, their business and driving VWs, this Bohemian couple’s abominable spirit and love of life, VWs and people, is as vibrant as ever. Especially also since Andrea has acquired her own authentic VW Kombi Camper.

It was André Otto and family from Boksburg’s second trip to Kaapsehoop for this event. “We have toured with our bus, not without hiccups, of course, but, the ’65 Split Window is and will always be part of the family. But what the heck - life is a Volksie bus, eh!”

Sally Wille brought her 1966 Ghia, named Lilly, to the fest, despite a few hiccups on the way to Kaapsehoop.

Typical at Kaapsehoop, the mist cleared just a tad now and then. The chatter was alive and VWs never complain. The day was a full house - the family is growing.

See you all around - in a Beetle, of course!
