Music from the movies at the Penryn Chapel
MBOMBELA - The Lowveld Community Orchestra put on a magical production “Music from the Movies” at the Penryn Chapel on Sunday afternoon, October 16.
The orchestra, conducted by Lizanne Barnard and Cassandra Mönnig, played a series of wonderful musical pieces from various well-loved films ranging from
Kung Fu Panda and The Pianist to La Vie En Rose, Ladies in Lavender and Scent of a Woman, to name but a few.
The spectacular performance also featured the talented and skilled soloists, Rhona van Niekerk and Thembile Mahlangu.
The audience sat in almost complete silence, hanging onto every musical note played by the orchestra with wonder and awe.
Barnard said that the performance was a definite highlight for the orchestra. “We felt that we really reached the audience and that everyone who attended enjoyed the afternoon,” she said. People remarked on how versatile the programme was.
She also thanked Harry Green Music World and Rock Solid Sound Productions for their support and said without it, the orchestra would be unable to put on the shows to the extent that it does. Barnard added that the orchestra will be having its Christmas Show on November 26.
