Gymnasts’ hard work pays off at games
Fourteen gymnasts of Nelspruit Gymnastics Academy (NGA) represented Mpumalanga at the recent SA Gym Games at Matsport Arena in Pretoria.
Of the 14 who took part, eight finished in the top 10.
In level 4 (10 years), Lily Renaud came second overall and received a silver overall place medal out of 95 gymnasts. She also received a silver medal on the beam with a score of 9.3.
Megan Prinsloo, level 6 (12 years), came fifth overall with a gold medal on beam and a bronze medal on floor. In the same section Carli Hopkins was very consistent on all four apparatus and finished sixth overall.
In level 4 (12 years), Teagan Pappas came sixth overall out of 97 gymnasts in her section with an average score high score of 9.0.
In level 4 (seven to nine years), Alize Engelbrecht came sixth overall with two silver apparatus medals: on the vault with 9.35 as well as on the beam with 9.15.
Anzel Moolman, level 6, came eighth overall and brought back a bronze medal for beam. Elizma de Villiers, a level 7 gymnast, did an astonishing floor routine and won a gold medal.
In the boys section, Dylan Geldard brought back a ninth overall place and a silver medal for p-bars, 9.45.
NGA’s coaches are thankful that the hard work paid off and the gymnasts are now focusing on new elements of the next level to prepare for the NGA competition that will take place at the end of November. The group dances are also part of this competition and it is another highlight for them.
