How to become ‘security-fit’

- Frank Swanepoel

It is that time of year again when criminal incidents are escalating and one can observe the increase on a daily basis.

These vary from minor incidents to violent crimes in which members of the public are tied up, assaulted and sometimes murdered.

Is there something I, as a member of the public, can do about the situation?

Firstly, I would like to start with the general perception of some members of the public out there who believe that crime only happens to other people. The reality is it can happen to you. Whether it is at your office or at home, one needs to become security-fit.

What does this mean? We need a mind change and to accept the fact that it can happen to anyone. Once you believe this concept, you start working on your own safety.

Secondly, you need to be aware that security starts at home. It is each and everyone’s responsibility to ensure that you and your family are safe at home. I also suggest you find out what you can do to assist with security measures in your workplace. By this I mean, secure your home/business with security systems (alarms, beams, cameras, floodlights, electrical fences, etc) which will make it safer than when you don’t have these systems installed.

If you then utilise these systems, the chances are that the criminals would look elsewhere where it is easier to commit crime. If there are no cameras, laptops and phones left in your vehicle while shopping, your vehicle will not be broken into.

Become security-fit and call Hi-Tech Security today for all your security requirements! We have the knowledge and necessary experience to assist in your needs to become security-fit.
