JJ Peters’ trial to commence in 2023

- Tumelo Waga Dibakwane

MBOMBELA - JJ Peters, who is accused of killing his grandmother, made his first appearance in the Nelspruit Regional Court on October 28.

His case was postponed to November 9, because the accused had to reapply for a legal aid representative. The state also awaits copies of the case from the district court before it can start with his trial. It indicated that the official trial will commence early next year, as soon as it has all its paperwork and witnesses ready.

Peters has been in police custody for eight months. He abandoned his bail application during his third district court appearance on March 16, after he had been in court twice to officially apply for it.

Peters is accused of murdering his grandmother, Sannie Strydom Kilmister

(68), on February 28. Kilmister was allegedly strangled by Peters, who had been sharing her house on a smallholding in the Cromdale area. She was found dead in her bedroom with various bruise marks on her neck and blood stains were found on her pillow.
