Young actors wow with performances

-

Fairyland came to life on stage in the Penryn Chapel for three days at the end of October.

This hilarious musical was directed by Felicia Lemmer of Felicia Lemmer School of Music, in co-operation with Shan-Rich Lemmer and Julia Burger, who both had some of their own singing students in the cast.

Lemmer also did the music recordings and editing, while the amazing staff of AVS Hire saw to the excellent sound and lights.

The title role of Princess Whatsername was played by the incredibly talented

Ingrid du Toit, who left the audience in awe of her amazing voice, acting ability and stage presence.

Even though Prince Charming and his princess only meet in the very last scene, Tyler Spencer captured the audience with his excellent portrayal of Prince Reveille, aka Prince Charming, with his excellent timing of humour and body language.

This was a star-studded cast, containing three of this year's eisteddfod competitive vocal category winners, winners of previous years, as well as this year’s winner of Whities Got Talent.

Three of Penryn’s own learners were in the cast: Siphesihle Nkosi, who played the role of the steward, Tenhlanhla Gama, who played the role of the nurse, and Kerry-Lee

Christensen, who played the role of the forest witch.

Some of these actors are seasoned on stage, whether for singing of acting. They are Jocelyn Field, who was Gretel, Karsten Meyer, who played a great Rumpelstiltskin, Jasmine Lorem as Goldilocks, Kaylee Douglass, who was brilliant in her role as Snow White from the Western Cape, and Andrew King, who had the audience in stitches with his portrayal of Prince Hercules from the Western Cape.

Other learners who were comfortable on stage include Erin Durek, who played an excellent Wicked Queen of the West, Ilanca van Wyk as the motherly Fairy Godmother, Nicole Mabuza as Cinderella, and Lynn Muthando as the very worried Queen of the South.

Phillip de Kok played his role of the King of the South with an immaculate sense of comical timing, and had both the audience and his fellow actors crawling with laughter.
