Market@Friends welcomes summer

- Ian Hugh Fleming

MBOMBELA - The Market@ Friends Café offers truly authentic, home-made and completely delicious goodies for one and all.

Held on the last Sunday of every month, this gorgeous market is set against the lush lawns along the Gladdespruit bank at Friends Café on the Kaapsehoop Road.

Some of Mbombela’s best and most innovative craftsmen gather here to sell their unique wares to the browsing public. There’s everything from dog training to biltong and koeksisters, from handmade oak and pottery items to healing herbs and the best pies you will ever eat. Home-made preserves, psychedelic kaftans, dreamcatchers, antique farm collectables, and even dog training exhibitions complete the regular lineup of unmissable treats.

The organiser, Peta de Wet, said, “I don’t think the public realises just how much they do for the local economy when they support these small businesses.

“This is a market with great heart, and it’s all about promoting some of the best food and household items the Lowveld has to offer. It’s also pet friendly, as long as your dogs are on leashes and are sociable,” she said.

On Sunday, the team from Canine Unity held a short demo that was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

The next market will be held on November 27 from 09:00 to 13:00. The last one for the year will be held on Friday December 16, and promises to be a bumper Christmas Market.
