Trains collide near border

Transnet Freight Rail has confirmed a train collision had occurred on the main line between Ressano Garcia in Mozambique and Komatipoort on Tuesday. According to a statement released by Transnet, the collision happened at 17:15. It said a Transnet train operated by a crew from Mozambique Ports and Railways (CFM) had collided with a CFM train that was shunting on the main line between Ressano Garcia and Komatipoort. “CFM is a state-owned company that oversees the railway system in Mozambique and its connected ports,” said the statement. “The Transnet train, which had been loaded with magnetite, departed from Komatipoort and was destined for Ressano Garcia.
