Come and join MLA’s open day on November 19

-

In January 2023, Mbombela Leadership Academy (MLA) will welcome its first learners at 44 Marloth Street.

The school is in the heart of the city and aims to be the flagship of education with Christian values. One of the foundational principles will be leadership development. Classes will be limited to 25 learners each to ensure a disciplined atmosphere and education of the highest standard. All grade one to seven learners are invited to enrol at MLA, but unfortunately, due to the small classes, space will be limited.

It was unanimously decided by the board of directors that the school uniform has to be unique and modern. Fabric has been chosen wisely, with the intense summer heat of Mbombela being a deciding factor. The aim was to create something different while still being neat and practical for both boys and girls. The end result was a striking range of clothing, as can be seen by the accompanying photos.

The curriculum that will be followed is in line with the Department of Education’s framework. All subjects will be presented in English and will include English home language, Afrikaans and siSwati as additional languages, mathematics, social science, natural science, technology, economic and management science, life orientation, Bible, computer studies and creative arts. Appropriately qualified and experienced staff as well as a principal have already been carefully selected and appointed. All staff members are passionate about education and making a difference in children’s lives. Although there will be no sport activities after school, the learners will be encouraged to enrol at private clubs. Different sport skills will, however, be introduced during physical education periods.

Time will be made during the academic year to invite members from the community to share their knowledge and skills with the learners. This will from time to time include activities like music, drama, art and even first aid lessons. Learners will also be taught higher cognitive skills, critical thinking and study methods. The school day will start at 07:30 and end at 13:00 for the foundation phase, whereas the intermediate phase will end at 13:30. An aftercare facility will be available from 13:45 until 17:30.

The dates of school terms will be as prescribed by the Department of Education, and therefore will be the same as other government schools.

Do not miss out on the open day on November 19 from 09:00 to 14:00.
