Peters to remain in police custody
MBOMBELA - JJ Peters will be reappearing in the Nelspruit Regional
Court for an application for a Legal Aid representative on December 5.
According to the provincial National Prosecuting Authority’s spokesperson, Monica Nyuswa, Peters will make his official application for Legal Aid to represent him in the regional court as his case has passed all screening tests at the Nelspruit District Court.
Nyuswa also said the state has indicated that the official trial will commence early next year as soon as it has all the paperwork in order and the witnesses ready. This means the accused will spend Christmas in police custody.
Peters has been in police custody for eight months. He abandoned his bail application during his third district court appearance on March 16, after he had been in court twice for an official bail application.
Peters is accused of murdering his grandmother, Sannie Strydom Kilmister (68) on February 28. Kilmister was allegedly strangled by Peters, who had been sharing her house on a smallholding in the
Cromdale area.
