Public parks are not parking lots

MBOMBELA - We Care 4 Nelspruit is winning the battle to remove cars being parked in public parks.

The founder of the organisation, Pr TJ Maré, said they managed to install barrier poles at all public parks where motorists previously used to park their cars.

As for their dustbins being stolen, they are now making it a little bit heavier with cement, and engaged scrapyard owners to not accept these bins when people go and attempt to sell them.

“We made sure that the parks are closed off for vehicles. People can only walk into the parks and relax and children can play safely. Using the parks as a parking lot is unacceptable. We have also secured our dustbins that people used to steal. They are no longer easy to carry around, since they are heavy, and scrapyards are not accepting them,” he said.

He also said due to the demand of their services and with their limited resources, they are pleading with the public to donate towards We Care 4 Nelspruit. “We service areas that the municipality cannot reach, and those people are depending on us. But with the limited resources we cannot reach them. We know that there are people who are hired to clean those areas, but we cannot fold our arms and see our town deteriorate on our watch.”

Maré said people can donate through the Kruger Lowveld Chamber of Business and Tourism, and pledge towards We Care 4 Nelspruit. This can be a once-off or monthly pledge.

“We need petrol to cut grass and travel around the city; we need stipends to pay the people who are working for us. We also accept any form of donations, because it will make a difference in our organisation. I must also thank the people who are already donating to We Care 4 Nelspruit,” he said.
