Lowveld Ramblers walk the talk in Steiltes Reserve

MBOMBELA - The Lowveld Rambling Club celebrated its 50th anniversary this year.
One of its special events for celebration was the project at the Steiltes Nature Reserve on November 5.
Gerhard van Niekerk, chairperson of the Lowveld Rambling Club, said they replaced the signboard to the entrance of the reserve.
"Jackie Visser at Total Signs did the artwork and erected the board at no cost," he said.
He said the route was plotted with GPS before the board went up, and so a map of the route is also up on the new board.
"Twenty-one members turned up with refuse bags and collected litter while hiking the trails. We also repaired the dilapidated bridge in the reserve."
He said they still had to replace another rotten bridge in the reserve, but that it would be done in due course.
"Members of the public have already contacted me and offered to assist completing this. Low’s Creek Treated Timber provided the timber for the bridge repairs."
He said the team also marked the route with a stencil and road paint.
"Not all efforts were successful, as it was our first time doing this, and the area was wet after the good rain we had had the previous night. We need to go back to complete the marking of the Leopard Route up to Dr Enos Mabuza Drive," he said.
