Big-hearted bikers’ Toy Run scores high for charity

- Ian Hugh Fleming

WHITE RIVER - Every year, the Lowveld’s bikers are at the head of the pack when it comes to garnering actual support for those less fortunate, and this year was no exception.

The Lowveld’s loudest and proudest motorcycle ride for charity, the annual Toy Run, clutched out from Crossings SPAR on Saturday, with the bikers bearing fluffy bunnies and cuddly bears, as well as food, essential toiletries, stationery and all manner of comforting creature toys.

About 160 bikers purred into Ingwenyama Sports and Conference Resort, where a packed festival of stalls, braais, a full bar and an electrifying rock and acoustic music lineup awaited.

The president of Clan 3633 Venom and

Toy Run organiser, Bernadette Woodford, said, “This year, we raised R30 000 for charity. The massive amount of toys and essential goods still need to be itemised before we can decide on worthy charities. We are overwhelmed by the public's generosity and support.

“A big shout-out to the bands who support us every year, to sound engineer Isack Coetzer and to our biker community who once again showed our true colours,” she said.

Woodford gave a special thanks to Ingwenyama, BMW Motors, Cater World, Doug’s Hiring and the great bands who support this worthiest of events year after year. Top Lowveld

bands Soul Taxi, Hopeless Heroes, Oes, The Jonathan Peyper Band, The Acoustics and Goat N Hare rocked the large crowd all day and into the night.

Over 50 sponsors came together for this year’s run.

The Lowveld Toy Run is one of our proudest traditions. It is fitting that the Lowveld’s generous social spirit be borne by the bikers because they are real, caring, relaxed and truly kind-hearted.

People can still deliver donations and toys and charities may send their Christmas wish lists in. Call Bernadette on 082 308 2624.
