HAZYVIEW - The small town came alive with the sound of music on Saturday night.

The event, aptly named Music Mania, took place at ANEW Resort. It is an annual event organised by Summerhill Preparatory School.

The theme this year was Summerhill Games and everyone was invited to dress up according a sports theme. There were many creative outfits, some of the more interesting ones being ancient Greek, aerobics, Formula 1, baseball and synchronised swimming apparel.

Music Mania is a music quiz evening celebrating music in all its forms (local is lekker, movies, one-time hits, name the artist, name the song).

The programme director was Kazlo Holtzhausen of Musiekpret. He knew his stuff as he was interacting with the audience and also showed how good he is when it comes to music and keeping people entertained.

The participants were as diverse as the music itself. People from all walks of life came together to celebrate their shared love of music and, of course, show their support to the school.

The atmosphere was electric, with the audience’s enthusiasm and energy adding to the magic of the night.

According to the principal, Cheryl Calmeyer, the school managed to raise funds of more than R145 000 from cash sponsors and auctioned items, which will go towards extra nice-to-haves such as more playground equipment, marimbas and seating at the sports field, which are not covered by school fees.

“We were well supported by the sponsors and the community as they arrived in their numbers. As a school we are hugely appreciative of their generosity. The money will go for good causes. We encourage the public to continue supporting us when we have events like this one,” she said.

The ticket price covered the cost of bringing in Musiekpret to facilitate the evening, as well as a three-course meal. Besides a Galito’s sauce for every guest to take home, the following prizes were awarded:

• Best dressed male (Phil Merchant) and female (Elané van Heerden) each won a bottle of wine, a spa voucher, a hair treatment voucher, restaurant vouchers and a clivia.

• The table with the most spirit (table 5) each won a bottle of wine, a shopping voucher and a clivia.

• The overall winning table (table 19) each won a bottle of wine, restaurant vouchers, a shopping voucher and a clivia.
