The Sikorsky S-64 Skycrane is an American twin-engine heavy-lift helicopter. It is the civil version of the United States Army’s CH-54 Tarhe. It is currently produced as the S-64 Aircrane by Erickson Inc. Erickson offers a robust number of aviation solutions to complete critical missions for defence and national security customers. Coupled with a sophisticated logistical support system and adaptable crews, Erickson is uniquely capable of meeting the dynamic and ever-changing demands of the global tactical environments. Erickson has done more than perfect the art of firefighting from the sky. As the world leader in aerial firefighting for nearly 30 years, Erickson supports state and federal agencies around the world to control and extinguish fires.
Aerial firefighting support with the S-64 Air Crane® aircraft combines the capacity of a fixed-wing tanker with the accuracy, technique and refill speed of a helicopter. When you need to fight flames fast, Erickson can deploy lighter craft with a hover pump snorkel that can even fill from shallow water sources in just 30 seconds. From the sky, not only can the helicopter survey the blaze more accurately, but as a command post it can also keep ground crews out of harm’s way and reach remote areas without delay. After the job is completed, the helicopter can deploy stabilising hydroseed to jumpstart the revegetation and erosion control in burn areas.
