HOVER DYNAMICS

-

In 30 years, Hover Dynamics has flown more than 35 000 hours of ab-initio training or hire and fly on R22 and R44 helicopters. In 2011 the R66 Turbine was added to the fleet which has been a great success to both the training and charter market. Hover Dynamics is an approved and licensed by the South African Civil Aviation Authority as a training school ATO #0110. Applications include ab-initio training, advanced training, conversion to type, night and instrument ratings, game capture ratings, underslung load ratings, instructor rating and simulator training. Training is the bread-and-butter activity of the school being one of the largest training schools for helicopter pilots in South Africa. The school offers ab-initio training on the Robinson R44 and R66 helicopters. Robinson helicopters are the most widely used training helicopters in the world. As agents for Robinson helicopters many of the school’s graduates have enjoyed owning their own helicopter through Hover Dynamics. The required standard is competency in all of the 32 exercises that make up the Hover Dynamics syllabus. All examinations are undertaken at the SACAA or at an approved facility using computer-based testing platforms. All the school’s full-time instructors are designated examiners for the private pilot skills test.

Hover Dynamics maintenance

Also based at Grand Central Airport, Aircraft Maintenance Organisation (AMO #237), was started in 1994 as a division of Hover Dynamics, with a branch in Nelspruit (AMO, #966). The focus of maintenance at that time was to ensure that the training school’s own fleet of aircraft were maintained to the highest standards. However, the demand for maintenance from private owners was so overwhelming that soon Hover Dynamics became the busiest helicopter AMO on the airfield. In 1995 Hover Dynamics was appointed as a Robinson approved service centre. The requirement was that the engineers had to attend a factory training course, purchase and maintain a minimum spares inventory and that the company purchased Robinson special tools. This approval is reviewed on an annual basis and renewed based on minimum criteria being met. In 1997 Hover Dynamics Maintenance became a Bell service centre. These service centre agreements mean that the company purchases its spares directly from the factory at wholesale prices. Hover Dynamics is in the unique position to pass these discounts back to its clients.
