Taxi driver’s leg sticks out of window

African Times - - News - AKANI CHAUKE

A TAXI driver steering his vehicle at high speed with his leg sticking out of the window has sparked a storm in South Africa.

The unnamed man was caught on video on the M1 highway in Johannesburg. Traffic police are not amused by the driver’s theatrics. “This behaviour is not allowed on public roads. It affects the safety of other motorists,” said Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department spokesman, Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

He said if the driver was arrested, he could be charged with reckless driving. Enforcers will face a torrid time identifying the man or the vehicle as the video depicting the misbehaviour is hazy. The taxi union called on the public to report misbehaving drivers.

“We still urge people to contact us when they see taxis driving recklessly,” South African National Taxi Council spokesman, Thabisho Molelekwa, said.

South African taxi drivers have a bad reputation.

They are infamous for being rude and violent to commuters. The taxi drivers are also notorious for bullying other road users and disrespecting traffic regulations.
