Limpopo tourism gets new CEO
Nomasonto Ndlovu now the driving force behind tourism body
NOMASONTO Ndlovu has been announced as the new Chief Executive Officer of Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA).
Ndlovu is now the driving force as she is tasked with the mammoth mission of steering the tourism vehicle in the province to its desired destination.
She steps into the shoes left by acting Gladwin Kotsedi who succeeded Ndumiso Matlala who resigned in April.
The new sheriff in town is said to be a woman with passion for brands as well as a special touch of taking them from good to great and turn them into household names.
With more than a decade of classical brand marketing experience gained within the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) industry, she has already worked on various local and global brands in various positions over the years.
While at Unilever, Ndlovu was seconded for three years in Kenya as a Brand Manager for OMO Brand, one of Unilever’s biggest brands.
She thereafter ventured into destination marketing in 2005, joining tourism board of Kwa-ZuluNatal, where she held the position of General Manager: Marketing responsible for the “Zulu Kingdom” brand across business, leisure and events tourism.
With an impeccable CV in the tourism industry, Ndlovu became the Global Manager: Business Tourism at South African Tourism (SAT) for three years, where she was responsible for marketing South Africa as a premier business tourism destination globally.
It was during her stint there that she led and contributed to growing Meetings Africa, a marketing platform to showcase South Africa as a business tourism destination.
Ndlovu also played a pivotal role in the establishment of SA’s National Convention Bureau, housed within SA Tourism.
A woman of substance and pedigree with a marketing DNA, Ndlovu also held the position of Head: Brand Marketing, Sponsorships and Events at Standard Bank’s Corporate and Investment Banking Division (CIB).
She recently held a position of Strategic Executive Director, Communications, Marketing & Events Department at the City of Tshwane, where she was responsible for the repositioning of the city to reclaim its glory as a capital city of South Africa, and this has involved identifying and overseeing implementation of flagship events to position the city nationally and internationally.
One of her greatest achievements was to successfully lead the team that delivered the inaugural Tshwane Golf Open 2013, which put the city on the global map, an event that has now been hosted for five years in the city.
Nomasonto is also the former Chairman for the South African Golf Tourism Association.
Academically, she holds a Bachelor of Social Science degree from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, her home province.
In her brief acceptance speech, Ndlovu said: “I am excited to about the new role I am taking at LTA. I am looking forward and willing to work harmoniously with everyone her at the agency.
“My excitement stems from the fact that Limpopo boasts tourism products. With that, I intend to play a meaningful role in making sure that Limpopo remain a preferred tourism destination.”
In his address, LTA board chairperson Andrew Dipela said: “We believe that her vision and extensive experience in the field of marketing will benefit and enrich the entity’s efforts of achieving its goal of marketing Limpopo Province thereby maintaining its number one spot as a leading domestic tourism destination in the country. It is believed that Ms. Ndlovu’s understanding of her role and functions will be central at the entity to assist the Board to fulfil its mandate of marketing the province as a destination of choice. Ms. Ndlovu brings with her impeccable experience gained from private and public sector.
“The Board is optimistic that she will take LTA to greater heights and help keep the momentum for Limpopo to continue claiming its number one spot as a destination of choice to domestic travellers in the country.
“As the chairperson of the
LTA Board, I am delighted for the appointment of a person of Ms. Ndlovu’s calibre as the CEO, given not only her experience, but the administrative knowledge and a global network she brings with her to the Agency.
“We are confident that this appointment will ensure that we maintain our top spot as the most visited Province on the Domestic Tourism front.
“We will as the Board support Ms. Ndlovu as the new CEO and her team to achieve the goals that we have set for the Agency”.
