Wo­man ac­cused of as­sault­ing son for los­ing shoes

A 35-year old mother in Coop­erspark vil­lage in Mat­lala, Lim­popo, has ap­peared in the Mat­lala Mag­is­trate’s Court on a charge of child abuse and as­sault with in­tent to do griev­ous bod­ily harm (GBH).

The case of Give­ness Mat­lou Thansa (35) was post­poned to 30 April 2018. She was de­nied bail and po­lice in­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing.

It is al­leged that Thansa se­verely as­saulted her fiveyear old son with a wooden stick. She ac­cused him of los­ing his school shoes. Dur­ing the or­deal, the son sus­tained se­ri­ous in­juries on his body.

The child was taken to the hos­pi­tal for med­i­cal treat­ment and was there­after re­leased into the cus­tody of his grand­mother.
