SAPS pays heavy price through crashes
A TOTAL of 1 105 police vehicles have been involved in accidents between April and May this year, while 126 vehicles were written off in the same period,
Police Minister Bheki Cele was responding to a question on the matter from DA MP Erik Marais and also said that 88.25% out SAPS’s 47 740 vehicles were fitted with tracking devices,
In a statistical breakdown of accidents in the past three years, Cele said that in 2015/16 a total of 8 577 vehicles were involved in accidents, in 2016/2017 the number was 6 754 and in 2017/18 it stood at 6854.
Cele said the numbers of vehicles written off because they were beyond repair were 1126, 1354 and 1352 respectively.
