City to in­stall VIP toi­lets

JO­HAN­NES­BURG Wa­ter will spend R21m to in­stall venti­lated im­proved pit (VIP) toi­lets to in­for­mal set­tle­ments in the south of Jo­han­nes­burg.

The tar­get for this fi­nan­cial year is to in­stall 2 290 VIP toi­lets in var­i­ous in­for­mal set­tle­ments around the city.

Jo­han­nes­burg Wa­ter has started in­stalling 400 VIPs in Drieziek Ex­ten­sion 5 and will be mov­ing to Law­ley to in­stall 500, 420 in Mer­it­ing and add ablu­tion blocks in Zamimpilo in­for­mal set­tle­ment.

These toi­lets will be re­plac­ing the old chem­i­cal toi­lets that the res­i­dents were us­ing, where they shared one toi­let among seven house­holds. – Shon­isani Tshikalange
