FOUR men, arrested for hijacking and other crimes will appear in the Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court today.

They were arrested on Wednesday and face further charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and illegal possession of explosives.

Police spokesperson Const Josephine Rani said the four men went to a house in Phiritona near Heilbron where they found the victim and his son cleaning the garage.

She said two of the suspects entered the garage and pointed firearms at the victim and his son, demanding the keys to his Quantum Kombi.

“The victim complied and gave them the keys but the two drove off with the victim’s son. On their way out of Phiritona township they picked up another two suspects and went en route to Zamdela,” Rani said.

She said a tactical response team together with other units in the Zamdela cluster was alerted and waited at the entry and exit routes.

“As they saw that they didn’t have a way out, they then drove into Amelia section where they abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

“The police gave chase and through the assistance of the community who pointed out where suspects were hiding, the police managed to arrest all four of them and the victim’s son was found in the vehicle unharmed,” Rani said.

“We will continue to squeeze the space for criminals and ensure that they are brought to book. Our appreciation goes to the community for assisting the police.”
