Yimpi lena eyalwa umshoshaphansi, yaphinde yalwa udede, yabeka intukuthelo yaboHllanga ababephoqwa ngabelungu, bephucwa ilungelo labo lokuphila ebalazweni lo mhlaba. IMpi yaMakhanda ibuye yaziwe ngokuthi “ngekamagcino kaZulu”. Yalwa kusukela ngowe-1905 uvuthondaba lwaba ngoNhlangulana ngowe-1906 lapho amaqhawe kaZulu aguqa khona eweni laseMome, eNkandla.
UMbuso wamaNgisi wawuneqhinga lokuthi onke amazwe ayengaphansi kwawo akhokhiswe intela njengoba kwakwenzeka eKenya, eMalawi, eRhodesia naseBotswana. Ngemuva kweMpi Yamakhanda aboHlanga bahlangana babona ukuthi impi ayiliwe ngemfundo nobumbano hhayi ngezikhali.

Umuntu owayehamba phambili ephikisana nokukhokhwa kwale ntela yiyona iNkosi uBhambatha. Indawo yeNkosi uBhambatha yayisikelene umngcele namapulazi abelungu.
INkosi uBhambatha (uMagaduzela owabonel’ empunzini) ubize amadoda esizwe sakhe wathi awavivele impi ngoba izimisele ukulwa nebelungu uma bekhokhisa abaKwaZondi le mali. Yathi izoya eSigodlweni oSuthu eSilweni uDinuzulu kaCetshwayo iyobika ukuthi isiyimpi.
Kuthe langa limbe iNkosi uBhambatha, umkayo uSiyekiwe (uMaZuma), indodakazi uKholekile, indodana uNdabayakhe nezinduna zayo uMgwaqo noNkantolo bavuka ekuseni ngovivi bababela oSuthu (eMkhontweni) eSigodlweni seSilo uMamonga (uDinuzulu). Bemukelwa yinceku uNgqengqengqe, wabethula enduneni enkulu uMankulumana kaSomaphunga Ndwandwe (iShudu). ISilo uDinuzulu sasisanda kubuya ekudingisweni esiqhingini iSt Helena futhi singaphilile. AmaNgisi ayeseshaye umthetho wokuthi iSilo uDinuzulu masibhekane nezindaba zasoSuthu kuphela kodwa abantu ezweni lonke babesasithatha njengeNgonyama yabo. Yingakho uBhambatha wasuka eMdlovana waya eSilweni oSuthu.

ISilo uDinuzulu noNgqegqengqe batshela iNkosi uBhambatha ukuthi kukhona indoda yaKwaSithole, eNhlazatshe, esifundeni saseMahlabathini eyisilwi, eyinhloli futhi enawo wonke amaqhinga empi. INkosi uBhambatha ishiye umndeni wayo oSuthu, iyolanda inyanga uMalaza, eMpanza, eMsinga, ukuze iyokwelapha iSilo uDinuzulu. Endleleni iNkosi uBhambatha yadlula yabonana nayo le ndoda yakwaSithole babhunga. UChakijana ubuze eNkosini uBhambatha ukuthi bazozithathaphi izibhamu wathi sikhona isitolo somlungu eMpanza esinezibhamu, bazogqekeza sona.
Izwe lonke belivungama, aMakhosi nezinduna babebiza izimbizo, kuphikiswana nokukhokhwa kwemali yamakhanda. Kwabakhona omunye umhlangano owawuseNhlopheni ubizwe yinduna uNgoqo kaSigodo waseManzimeleni, induna uNdabankulu kaLukhwazi Ntombela, iNkosi uNqodi kaDikana Mbatha nenduna uSikhobobo kaMabhabhakazana Sibiya. Kulowo mhlangano abantu bashaya phansi ngonyawo bathi kungasa befile ngeke bawukhokhe ukhandampondo.
