CALCULUS

BESPOKE BIKE BUILDS. IN RARE METAL.

- R145 000 CALCULUS-BIKES.COM

Titanium framesets are generally a rare thing, so finding a custom titanium builder is even more rare. Finding one based in South Africa is even trickier.

Enter Millar Nienaber from Cape Town, who offers both bamboo and titanium custom bike builds, under the name of Calculus Bikes – choose between road, MTB hardtail, full-sus or gravel bikes. (The Calculus name comes from Millar’s varsity studies; where, he admits, calculus was his nemesis.)

First there’s a consultation process, during which you’re set up with an Ergo Bike Fit; then Calculus go about fabricating a frameset with geometry to your sizing and specification, finished off in the livery of your choice.

The spec shown here is a dream build on a custom-assembled full-suspension titanium frame. Included are laseretched graphics, and a distinctive, raw polished-titanium finish frameset. Even the swing plates are titanium, and the frame is made yet more distinctive by an integrated seatpost – a trademark feature for Calculus.

This dream build runs with a carbon Lefty 2.0, Enve wheels, Formula R1 brakes and Race Face Next carbon cranks.

SPEC HIGHLIGHTS: Carbon Lefty 2.0, Enve wheelset, custom titanium frame.

BOTTOM LINE: For a complete bespoke build – out of titanium, no less – Calculus sets itself apart.
