Trek turned some people on their heads with the launch of the Checkpoint, their graveltraveller. While everyone was clamouring around the gravel bandwagon, Trek held off, biding their time. The move paid off, and the proverbial fruit that was borne is an OCLV carbon construction ready to tackle any dirt road – or tar.
The Checkpoint takes its cues from the CX-driven Boone, with geometry tweaks, an offset fork rake and dropped BB. It’s proven itself a real breakthrough as a true gravel ride, thanks in part to the buzz-smoothing decoupler link.
But throw on a set of road tyres, and even a sub-3 Cycle Tour is possible. And with an array of luggage-mount options and generous tyre clearance, it’s also ready to switch from race to tour mode.
