Bicycling (South Africa) - - Inside - By Mike Finch

WELCOME TO OUR NEW-LOOK BICYCLING MAGAZINE. BIGGER FORMAT, BIGGER PICTURES, AND MORE TO READ ABOUT THIS BEAUTIFUL SPORT. So why? In short, we weren’t giving cycling its due. This is about riding beautiful bikes in beautiful places, and there’s no better way to show that than in a bigger-format magazine.

// AND WHAT BETTER WAY TO LAUNCH A NEW SIZE THAN WITH OUR ANNUAL BIKE BUYER’S GUIDE? Every year I say the same thing about the BBG: it’s bigger and better than ever! And this year it really is. //

WE ALSO INTRODUCE OUR NEW GEAR EDITOR, JON MINSTER, WHO WE THREW IN THE DEEP END – WE TOLD HIM THAT HIS FIRST JOB WAS TO WRITE VIRTUALLY A WHOLE MAGAZINE FULL OF BIKES.

But as you will read on page 38, Jon is no newbie when it comes to bike tech. //

AS AN AWARD-WINNING FREELANCE JOURNALIST, JON HAS WORKED FOR VARIOUS PUBLICATIONS OVER THE YEARS,

COLNAGO ARABESQUE 2019 BUT ADMITS THAT THE POSITION OF BICYCLING GEAR EDITOR MAY BE THE BEST JOB HE’S EVER HAD (BESIDES TRYING GET PRICES OUT OF SUPPLIERS, WHAT’S NOT TO LOVE?!) //

Jon comes with astonishing knowledge, and although most of his cycling life is spent riding his stunning collection of steel-frame gravel and road bikes, he’s a true tech geek with a passion for everything bicycle.

2019 MARKS THE 16TH YEAR SINCE BICYCLING MAGAZINE WAS LAUNCHED, AND WE’VE TAKEN A LITTLE TIME TO REMINISCE ABOUT OUR FIRST COVER WITH VANESSA SANDES – who probably does more running than cycling now, since marrying trail legend Ryan Sandes…
