DDo the prices of these e-bikes make your palms sweat? Then ask yourself: are you planning to try and break downhill speed records, or do you just want to ride some laid-back trails to the coffee shop on a Sunday morning?

This unfussy hardtail from Silverback offers exceptional value for money. It has a 130mm coil-suspension fork (a bit basic, but you could upgrade in time), a solid Shimano Deore drivetrain, and a Shimano Steps E-8000 motor with a semi-integrated battery on the down tube.

The Trail’s secret weapon, however, is its huge tyre clearance – up to 2.6” on 29er rims. The standard Maxxis Rekons are excellent, and if you run them at low pressure you won’t even notice you don’t have rear suspension.

There’s a dropper post too, which is a nice touch.
