NEIL, 70 26-TIME FINISHER “I’m cycling in memory of my brother Garth, who was killed in a cycling accident last year. It’s very emotional; but I’m glad to have my wife and my daughter here with me today.”

SIMA, 13 FIRST-TIME FINISHER “It was a tough day – the hardest part was the wind. My highlight today was when we rode past Masiphumelele and everyone was shouting for us, and my mom and dad were there, shouting on the side of the road, ‘Go Sima! Go Sima!’. It was great!”

LINUS, 68 30-TIME FINISHER “I enjoy riding, and the camaraderie along the way.”

HOPE, 44 THREE-TIME FINISHER “I do the race for the views and for the scenery. I cycle for my daughter, who is disabled. We are working on getting her to do it one day too. My highlight today has been the incredible colours of the ocean.”

WERNER, 43 & ANDILE, 10 FIRST TOGETHER AS FATHER AND SON; NINTH FOR WERNER “It’s a fun day out, the roads are closed, and it’s a great time to spend with my son.” – WERNER

“I’ve loved the day out, and especially the views!” – ANDILE

BRUCE, 39 SIX-TIME FINISHER “I do it because I love it. I love being outdoors, and it’s also a bit of challenge for me. My highlight this year has been conquering Chapman’s Peak!”

GILBERT, 38 FIRST-TIME FINISHER, COLOMBIA “I am here because this is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. This is an amazing race, and I needed to be here. The highlight today has been the people of South Africa! I love you all!”

ABDULMALEK, 26 FIRST-TIME FINISHER, SAUDIA ARABIA “I came to do the race because I wanted a challenge, and I wanted to prove something to myself. And I have! The highlight of my day has been the last five seconds! The support of the people on the road really got me through today.” MARJO, 47 & DANNY, 50 FIRST-TIME FINISHERS, BELGIUM “Our highlight today has been this point here at Witsands Beach and Scarborough – the scenery is amazing, and the warm, friendly South African people have been great too.” MARIUS, 48 5-TIME FINISHER, WORLD CUPWINNING SPRINGBOK “Apart from the wind, it’s fun. Lots of friends do it together, and get together once a year at this event. I enjoy the camaraderie, helping one another along – and also, it’s part of a healthy lifestyle. My highlight today was the stop at Simon’s Town, where I got to catch up with a couple of old rugby mates. Hoping we will be downwind from now on!”
