REGARDED by many as one of the best-kept secrets of KwaZuluNatal’s north coast, Sheffield Beach is ideally situated for those who want the best of both worlds. Set along kilometres of unspoilt coastline, the area has become a popular choice for those who crave a laidback atmosphere in a place that makes commuting to Durban and other major commercial spots a breeze.

The most northern resort town on the Dolphin Coast, this tranquil area is situated virtually on Ballito’s doorstep and is just 48km from Durban. Named in honour of sugar magnate Sir Liege Hulett’s birthplace in Sheffield, England, Sheffield Beach is also conveniently close to the King Shaka International Airport.

Lightstone statistics reflect that 65 sectional title properties were sold last year, the highest level yet recorded. The cumulative value of the sales came in at R53,235m.

The Home and Property team recently launched the R100m Brettenwood Lakes apartment and villa development. Architecturally, the design of Brettenwood Lakes follows the ethos which has made Brettenwood Coastal Estate such an attractive place to be; they link directly with the natural surrounds and aim to enhance the modern, active and social lifestyle of the north coast.

The estate lies between lush deep glades of indigenous forest on one side, which residents can explore via the numerous walking trails and the Indian Ocean on the other offering endless sea views. Fishing and bird watching on the numerous manmade lakes and dams offer residents and guests special downtime.

The architecturally timeless design of Brettenwood Lakes integrates the development into the natural surroundings with a strong focus on merging the urban and natural environments. Particular attention has been paid to the interior design by Union3, who have procured high-end suppliers such as Smeg and Grohe.

While Brettenwood Lakes will have its own private pool and clubhouse, residents can also make use of the estate’s new, elegant clubhouse, coffee shop, gym, three swimming pools and children’s play area. Buyers can choose from three-bedroom luxurious villas situated on the lakeside, two-bedroom apartments or one-bedroom, split-level studios with views of the Indian Ocean. Units range from 81m² to 288m², all offering striking open-plan designs and contemporary finishes.

The estate has an impeccable security track record and includes on-site security, an alarmed and monitored perimeter fence, as well as access control.

Developed by Hulett Development Company, the estate measures 104.34ha and has a total of 705 freehold and medium density units planned.

The villas are generous semidetached split-level units, which fan out around Loerie Lake. Open-plan living makes for quality entertaining space. Personalised and generous bedrooms are all ensuite, offering the perfect refuge.

The two-bedroom apartments offer buyers various options. On the ground floor, the single level units link with the outdoors and birdlife of the dam.

The open-plan space allows for easy living and entertaining. The multi-level units above these have contemporary layouts with additional special features such as private outdoor open showers.

Ideal for the young buyer, the one-bedroom apartments cascade down slopes which give way to distant views of the sea. Entrances onto the living level reveal a refined, stylish layout, framing the views beyond the balcony.

Stairs descend to the bedroom with its generous 3m ceiling space that allows for uninhibited views of the coast, whether from bed or the shower.

In addition, the residents’ facility boasts a self-service bar, braai area and a swimming pool.

“The estate combines the security and facilities of a gated residential estate, with the privacy of a conventional exclusive neighbourhood,” says Peter Cameron, principal of Home and Country Property.

There are 10 three-bedroom villas measuring 288m² available for R3.3m each. The two-bedroom apartments measure between 155m² and 177m² and are selling from R1.85m to R2.2m. The onebedroom units with an en-suite and guest bathroom measure 81m² and are selling for R1.3m. Contact: Home and Country Property Peter Cameron 083 796 9999 Office 032 525 4581
