Real-time monitoring of tyres

MAN Automotive South Africa has selected Continental’s Intelligent Tyres fitted with ContiPressureCheck (CPC) for its premium range of EfficientLine trucks, allowing for real-time monitoring of tyre performance, pressure and temperature.
Any irregularity noticed by the driver or fleet manager can be checked and corrected , with tyre information relayed to the driver via an on-board display. This has allowed fleet managers and drivers to reduce downtime and improve operating efficiencies, according to MAN.
The CPC system comprises one transmitter just 2cm long and weighing less than 20g and a processor, which is affixed to the inside of the tyre tread.
When the tyre is changed, the processor can be removed from the bracket and reused. The battery lasts a claimed six years, or about 600,000km. ContiPressureCheck is said to be compatible with all tyre brands and all vehicles. It is suited to almost any combination including buses, coaches, single-axle trailers or even six-axle tractor-trailers with a maximum of 24 tyres.
With both systems integrated, monitoring tyre pressure becomes easier as the CPC tyre sensor constantly monitors tyre pressure and temperature.
Tyre data collected with ContiPressureCheck is available to both the dispatcher’s computer and the vehicle’s driver. If there is a deviation from the defined values, both fleet managers and drivers will be able to react quickly to prevent potential time-consuming downtimes.
