Child mortality improving slowly

While access to family planning resources, reproductive healthcare and education have improved in the past two decades, the rate of child mortality in SA has not declined as fast as in comparable countries. According to data from the United Nations Children’s Fund, SA has cut down the mortality rate of children under the age of five by 24.2% in the past 20 years.
