Polokwane City hope to have coach by Kaizer Chiefs game

POLOKWANE City say they hope to have a new coach appointed by Tuesday (October 1) as they search for a replacement for Duncan Lechesa, who was fired earlier this month.

The Citizens have been led in the last two matches by their Brazilian fitness trainer, Eduardo Schoeler, assisted by team manager Bernard Molekwa.

The pair did well with the side, which suffered a narrow 1-0 loss to Orlando Pirates and had their first PSL win, scoring 2-0 against Ajax Cape Town to earn their first points.

But they hope to have their new man in charge by the time the side take on Kaizer Chiefs in the first round of the Telkom Knockout early next month.

Club chairman Johnny Mogaladi has revealed negotiations are on with an unnamed club for the services of their coach. “We are still talking and trying to finalise things. Hopefully this will be done by the first of next month,” he said.

“We still have to negotiate with this coach’s current organisation and agree terms of this contract.”

City are reported to have been interested in Chippa United boss Mark Harrison but they were rebuffed and it is unlikely that the Englishman would swap his role with the Chilli Boyz for what is likely to be another relegation battle this season.

Another candidate mentioned is former Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs coach Kosta Papic, who is working at City’s Limpopo rivals Black Leopards, though this has been shot down by Lidoda Duvha boss David Thidiela.

SA’s bid to qualify for the 2015 Women’s World Cup in Canada will begin in the middle of next year in either the Comoros lslands or Mozambique.

Banyana Banyana have been given a bye through the first round of qualifiers and will have to await the identity of their opponents in the second round, according to the draw released by the Confederation of African Football this week.

They will play a two-legged tie in May and June against the winner of the first-round clash between the Comoros and Mozambique, the winner qualifying for the eight-team African Women’s Championship, in Namibia this month and next.

Africa’s representatives will be determined at the African Women’s Championship in Windhoek where the top three finishers will secure places at Canada 2015. Africa have been granted an extra third place at the tournament in Canada, which has been expanded from 16 to 24 teams.
