Clintons in elephant anti-poaching effort
Hillary and Chelsea Clinton yesterday helped broker an $80m effort to stop poaching of African elephants. The crackdown on 50 poaching hot spots in Africa, including SA, involves several conservation groups and African governments. The plan was unveiled at the Clinton Global Initiative annual meeting. Wildlife Conservation Society president Cristian Samper welcomed the development, reports said. About 285,000 elephants — or two-thirds of the elephant population in Africa — live in the targeted areas. The plan was the first big international cause championed by Ms Clinton after she stepped down as US secretary of state.
