Jordan’s non sequitur
DEAR SIR — Pallo Jordan’s op-ed (US president who gave Congress its power back, September 24) is starkly at odds with prevailing world political commentary relating to the Syrian chemical weapons crisis, which clearly emphasises that the US was diplomatically outmaneuvered by Russian president Vladimir Putin.
Also, Mr Jordan could not resist peppering his diatribe with a non sequitur relating to Israel’s potential geopolitical power after a hypothetical defeat of Bashar al-Assad and a US invasion of Iran. What relevance did this paragraph have to his argument?
Perhaps he needs to be reminded of the failure of appeasement as exemplified by Neville Chamberlain’s misguided diplomacy with Adolf Hitler — a policy which the US seems to be following, whilst in the thrall of the current Iranian charm offensive at the United Nations General Assembly?
