Racist remarks ruin democracy project
A race row has erupted at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) after a project to mark 20 years of democracy in SA backfired. The “talking walls” project yielded a range of offensive statements. White boards that served as the talking walls saw statements such as “F**k whites”, as well as a suggestion that fewer whites be allowed at the university. Students on campus yesterday said the perpetrators should be punished. NMMU’s Roslyn Baatjies said the comments had been written anonymously and it was impossible to know who was responsible.
