Cancer virus detection easier

South African scientists have worked out how to quickly detect the human papillomavirus in women, which puts them at risk of developing cervical cancer. Prof Cindy Firnhaber, an HIV/AIDS expert at Right to Care, discovered that the Gene Xpert machine can detect the virus in an hour as sensitively as lengthy lab tests.
