Enterprises participate in exhibition
CHINESE President Xi Jinping, accompanied by South African President Jacob Zuma, Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe who is also the African Union’s rotating president, together with other African heads of state, visited the ChinaAfrica Equipment Manufacturing Industry Exhibition in Johannesburg on December 4.
The leaders were accompanied by government officials and business leaders. The exhibition was jointly organised by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce and the South African Department of Trade and Industry.
China’s Commerce Minister Gao Hucheng presided over the opening ceremony while Mr Xi, Mr Zuma and Mr Mugabe cut the red ribbon to open the exhibition before touring the booths.
The exhibition was held alongside the Forum on ChinaAfrica Co-operation Summit 2015. The exhibition offered visiting heads of state and business delegates an opportunity to experience some of the world-leading Chinese enterprises in the fields of rail equipment, energy, telecommunications, agriculture machinery, construction material, intelligent manufacturing, aviation and banking.
The event was the first largescale exhibition in Africa held by the two partners. The introduction of Chinese large heavy machinery in Africa not only reflected the depth of Sino-Africa co-operation in these areas, but also fully demonstrated the potential to further enhance the productive capacity and equipment manufacturing co-operation. Twenty-two African countries and more than 30 South African companies participated in the exhibition.
