Who does ANC serve?

SIR — Out of the Constitutional Court judgment that Parliament and its members should and must hold the executive to account on constitutional matters, there comes a quandary.

All African National Congress (ANC) MPs have signed a pledge at Luthuli House that they will obey the ANC over and above all others. Does this not place ANC members in conflict with the Constitution?

They cannot sign a pledge that they will serve and defend the Constitution first, but in fact, serve the ANC first.

Is this not a further Constitutional Court challenge waiting to happen?
