Electrolux quarterly profit soars

STOCKHOLM Swedish appliance giant Electrolux said yesterday its first-quarter profit had more than doubled from a year ago, thanks to robust markets in western Europe and North America. Net profit rose to 875-million krona ($108m), up from 339-million krona a year earlier. The firm’s earnings would have been even higher but for unfavourable currency exchange rates that weighed on sales, it said.
