Budget deficit at R23bn in May

SHORTFALL SA’s budget deficit was recorded at R22.8bn in May, Treasury data shows — worse than the R18.5bn shortfall in May 2015. Despite this, the deficit for the 2016/17 fiscal year to date (April and May) was recorded at R51.9bn, much better than the R59.9bn deficit recorded over the same period in the previous fiscal year.
