Rally of the metaphors

-

SIR — There must be something I don’t understand about tennis scores (Serena stutters to win while Murray cruises, June 29).

Serena Williams, the report goes on, “battled to a 6-2 6-4 win over Swiss qualifier Amra Sadikovic, ranked at 148 in the world”.

Later in the same report, we learn that Andy Murray “made a flying start to his bid for a second Wimbledon title as the world No 2 crushed compatriot Liam Broady 6-2 6-3 6-4” and “brushed aside the world No 235”.

I reckon your subeditor could swap all the metaphors between the two players and we would be no better or worse informed. James Olive Via e-mail
