Adapt to demand

-

Kevin Lovell is farting against thunder in his fight against chicken dumping (Import writer’s fowl play, March 2). Why does the SA Poultry Association not adapt to global chicken demand, instead of trying to fight dumping? Are Europeans and Americans (both North and South) all of a sudden going to start consuming “bone-in leg quarters — the brown meat”?

Why don’t chicken producers play the same game: export the valuable breast portions at exorbitant prices, and literally give the “brown meat” away? Or are they already doing that, but are sulking because they can’t sell chicken offal at inflated prices? Perhaps the Europeans and Americans don’t appreciate the excess brine?
