Record breaker Grace did it for people of Knysna
Branden Grace said he would swap his place in the history books to bring smiles back to the shattered town of Knysna. The 29-year-old smashed the best score in a Major with a spellbinding 62 at Royal Birkdale on Saturday. He became the first player ever to shoot a 62 in a Major. He was inundated with congratulations, but the only people he really wanted to please were the citizens of Knysna who suffered devastating fires that ravaged the town in June. With his parents living nearby and his brother in Knysna, Grace said he felt the pain deeply. He gave R1.5m to help the rebuilding effort. “There was actually a spectator out on the course who told me: ‘Do it for Knysna.’ That was great,” he told the Scottish Daily Record.
