Chinese scholarships awarded

STUDIES The Department of Higher Education and Training recently announced that the People’s Republic of China had awarded scholarships to 24 South Africans to pursue undergraduate and postgraduate studies at some of China’s top universities during the 2017-18 academic year. The scholarships are the result of an agreement of cooperation between the South African and Chinese governments. Fields of study for recipients include economic management, agricultural economics, engineering, applied mathematics, biotechnology and maritime studies. According to the Chinese government, South Africans top the number of African students studying in China with more than 1,500 students currently undertaking degrees in the country.
