Craggs wine estate has dams and restaurant

-

The 10.91ha Redford Wines estate, situated 20km from Plettenberg Bay in the popular Craggs, is going on auction.

The farm offers stables, a restaurant and wine-tasting facilities. It has two entrances, one to the private house and the other to the wine estate. It is directly opposite a polo landholding with a polo field.

The wine estate covers 10.91ha, 2.5ha of which are vineyards that are sectioned off with Bonnox fencing.

One hectare of sauvignon blanc grapes, which is irrigated by the main dam, is currently producing Redford’s MCC Sauvignon Blanc.

Some of the new plantings on the farm are new to the area and include white grapes like chenin blanc, semillon and gewürztraminer and red grapes like malbec, cabernet franc and sangiovese.

The property has two dams that contain bass. Other amenities include two vegetable tunnels with raised-bed growing boxes, and a cool storage room.

The main house has three bedrooms (the main bedroom has a fireplace); two bathrooms (one of which is en-suite to the main bedroom); a guest toilet; a study; a large kitchen; a dining room; and a lounge, which is also equipped with a fireplace.

Outside is a jungle gym, a double garage currently used as a workshop and three carports. There is room to expand and build, for instance, staff or guest cottages.

The restaurant can seat 70 people indoors and on a large deck that has views of the dams and mountains.

The restaurant has a fully equipped kitchen, a full liquor licence, which includes on and off-sales and micro manufacturing, as well as an Eden Foods certificate.

The property has stables for five horses. In addition, it has a feed room, tack room, dressage arena, a lunge ring, an extralarge garage to park a horse trailer, electrified paddocks, a barn for shavings and grass storage, as well as numerous outrides in the area.

The farm is located near MTO Forestry.

It was bought in 2006 when it was a wattle plantation. The husband-and-wife owners have worked hard in developing the land. When the cellar went in at Bramon they planted vines, the sauvignon blanc block of one hectare being the first.

The restaurant and tasting room were completed in December 2014, which allowed Redford wines to embark on further expansions.

The farm stocks a red house blend put together by wine maker Anton Smal.

The auction will take place at noon on February 28.

The reserve price is R13.5m, but all offers will be reviewed.

Bidders are required to register and must have certified copies of their identity documents and proof of residence, says Tanya Jovanovski, franchisee of Rawson Auctions Western Cape.
