The rand leapt like a springbok (animal and rugby variety) over the past couple of days after a slight reprieve by Moody's Investors Service. However, the probability of a downgrade for SA in March has yet to be priced in, one currency strategist warns.

MARIJUANA FIRMS

Beware those firms hawking the healing herb without heeding the law. It is more complicated to grow and sell cannabis legally than simply buying a franchise and selling the green stuff. Firms have been warned to apprise themselves of the law, and stay firmly within it.

JUDICIARY

SA's magistracy is inching closer to reflecting the country's demographics with the appointment of 105 women magistrates. In 1998, there were 284 women in the role. Now there will be closer to 860.
