The African MICE industry is under pressure due to a decrease in spend, so only those players who innovate and stay abreast of the trends are likely to prosper. Business Traveller Africa takes a look at who is doing what, and what some of the major MICE talking points are.
Century City Conference Centre in Cape Town, now open for its third year, has made waves in the South African meetings, conferencing and events industry. The venue has notched up a reputation for pushing the envelope and exceeding expectations. Further to that, the property is located just minutes from the city’s CBD and about 20 minutes from Cape Town International Airport, and the offering is extensive, with capacity to accommodate up to 1,900 delegates across 20 different venues (including four large halls and 11 meeting rooms), a spacious open-plan foyer, a versatile 1,200m2 outdoor venue, and an adjacent 125-room hotel.
However, there's nothing quite like first-hand experience. So, we chatted to Tamlynne Wilton, Founder and Chief Ideas Officer at idna about her experience working with the venue, and asked her why she keeps going back.
The venue is centrally located and is within walking distance of a selection of over 600 hotel rooms, Canal Walk Shopping Centre and a Virgin Active gym.
THEY’RE NOT SCARED OF INTIMACY
Big event or small, there is always a personal, welcoming experience.
THEY HAVE GOOD TASTE
The food is amazing and their sommelier knows just what to pour to take the edge off after a hard day! (That's a skill!) Bricks and Mortar: the venue is decorated beautifully and is really easy to use, for anything from gala dinners and intimate workshops to complex association conferences and cocktail functions
People: the management team and staff are committed to making your vision work and aren't afraid to think out of the box. The four-star hotel is a stone's throw away from the conference centre and it's a really cool space to relax and unwind after a hard day's work. The super-fast wi-fi and the ‘work-away-from-work' set-up makes it really easy to be away from the office.
THEY’RE MORE THAN KEEN ON GREEN
The venue is a four-star green star-rated building and employs sustainable practices such as the use of recycled water to flush the toilets, taps that run off automatic timers, and a solar energy system installed on the roof. A green building is a happy building, and our delegates love the space!
It's for these reasons and so many more that The Green Building Council of South Africa has partnered with Century City Conference Centre & Hotel to host their annual Green Building Convention for the next two years. It's an experience that simply can't be beat.
