4 in court over club owner’s murder

- JADE WITTEN

THE FOUR men arrested in connection with the murder of Bronx owner Bruno Bronn appeared in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Bronx bouncer John Frederick Coetzee, Fareez Allie, Achmat Toffa and Kurt Erispe were arrested at separate addresses at the weekend.

They face a charge murder.

It is alleged that the men killed Bronn last Monday.

The 50-year-old’s body was found in his Green Point home by his domestic worker the next day.

Bronn had marks around his neck and his hands were tied in front of him. His BMW was missing. Prosecutor Ebrahim Adams told the court that the State needed time to gather the men’s criminal profiles and establish whether they had previous convictions or pending cases or arrest warrants.

Coetzee’s lawyer, Jody Sampson, said his client had three previous convictions – two of them for illegal possession of drugs and one for assault.

The lawyers for the other men had no objection to the case being postponed to next Monday.

The men are to remain in custody at the Sea Point police station until then.

A close friend said last week that days before his death Bronn seemed scared and traumatised and confided that he was receiving threats and being harassed by someone.

Phillip King, former owner of Bronx and a friend of Bronn, said he was impressed by the swift police work.

Filander said more charges could be added to that faced by the four men.
